A market of birds.

After sweltering stinking noisy Jakarta, where I sheltered in my room most of the time, arriving in Yogyakarta was a relief. The temperature was much more agreable, there was less trafic, and it had some charm, something which Jakarta lacked, or maybe hid very well.

I didn’t get up to so much in this city since I was in the frame of mind that I was on my way to Bali, and also because I had been to this city some years earlier, seeing many things around there that time around. However I heard of a bird market that sounded kinda interesting, and it was! I was very happy I went to it. It wasn’t just a bird market, it was almost a zoo wholesaler! Check out these amazing bargains!!

Ok, despite the dry sarcasm it didn’t actually seem all that bad, yeah the monkeys were scared shitless and there were 10’s (not 1000’s) of birds in some cages the market was popular and the animals did sell, meaning they did at least get the chance to get to live in a better place. A bird in a cage singing happily is a common feature in many guesthouses and hotels in a lot of Indonesia, people like to be surrounded by bird song in their houses, and the birds don’t sing unless they are content. I even went to a house in Sumatra where they had a pet monkey, and it was cared for well. I feel like im coming across niave by making excuses for the market, but I couldn’t help seeing something good here as I saw the indonesian people looking in awe and excitement at the animals from the world around them, but sheesh them monkeys did look scared………..don’t know where im going with this so im gonna go…..IM IN INDIA AS I WRITE THIS!!! And its wonderful to be back here………Goodbye!!
