So in February this year in Iceland there was a revolution. It was a peaceful revolution unlike the revolutions that occurred in the middle east this year. The Icelandic revolution started to brew around 2009, when the economy was trashed as a direct result of private investments. The private investors that did this had just been given a higher credit rating because, previous to the economic crash the economy in Iceland was great. So the private investors took out huge loans and bought many wonderful things, including investments in various private businesses, I don’t have any of the names of the businesses at hand, but as I recall some of them were well known brands here in England. Then it all collapsed, the investments and purchases made by these people amounted to many times their worth, and even the worth of the whole of Iceland. They were allowed to do it, and even encouraged to do so all because of the good economy in Iceland. It shouldn’t have happened, it shouldn’t have been allowed to happen, and the actions of a few shouldn’t be allowed to affect a whole country like it did. So the Icelandic people protested, they started in around 2009, and in February 2011 they changed the government, they completely rewrote the constitution. And we didn’t hear a whisper of it in our mainstream media here in England. It’s news isn’t it? Taking into account that now Iceland have changed their rules and laws, they basically don’t have to pay back all this debt, according to their laws that is, and rightly so I think. They do owe money to the IMF and a few countries, including Denmark and England, but they will never pay it back.
In Israel right now, in Tel Aviv there is a protest going on that has been going on for at least two months. A while back BBC said there was a march in Tel Aviv, and after a small search I found out that the march was more than this, people had been camping out in Tel Aviv for over a month already protesting against not just one thing, but many things! Rising taxes, lowering of taxes for the rich, money spent on war, less money spent for the people. Never in the history of Israel has there been a protest like this, normally it is unthinkable for the Israelis to speak out against their country, they are a very patriotic people, but now they protest like they never did before and we don’t hear a whisper from it.
Recently Muammar Gaddafi was boosted out, his people revolted and then the UN swooped in and got rid of him swiftly. Just before all this there were many reports that Gaddafi was about to start a new currency, a gold backed currency. The “Gold Dinar” since it would be gold backed it would actually have more value than the Dollar, since this is backed by nothing, the value behind it was slipped away in 1933. A new currency backed by gold would affect the dollar for sure, however, lucky for America, Gaddafi was already on his way out. I only heard about this seemingly rather important piece of news yesterday, by literally a guy on the street.
Right now in America, in around 12 cities there are protests against private investors, against the mechanics of wall street. I saw something on the BBC last week, it mentioned a march to wall street that had some arrests and that was it. Looking further into it you will find out that the there have been camps on Wall street for weeks previous, and similar camps in other cities around America, BBC failed to mention these.
Right now in Manchester city centre here in humble lil ole England there is a camp in front of the old library near the G-mex centre. They have vowed not to move until the private investor/banking world changes.
Seems like lately things which I feel are very important are not reported about in the main stream news. I admit the protests in Manchester are quite uneventful at the moment. However the Icelandic revolution, the gold backed African currency and the protests in America are a big thing. So I just thought I’d mention them here.
